6-8 Charlotte
Square is a Grade II Listed property dating from 1770, within Newcastle's
Central Conservation Area and the Grainger Town Regeneration Area.
Newcastle City Council owns the building.
The four-storey warehouse
extension to the rear was added in 1920/30. It was proposed to
refurbish the property to provide managed incubator and move-on
units for new Software / Multimedia / ICT businesses.
It was important
to retain Charlotte Square as the main business address to lend
support and focus to the other cultural industries around the
square and to help enliven the underused public gardens, which
were also subject to renovation.
