Following the success of the
Turnbull building, which was the first building to be developed
in the area south of the Central Station known as the Clavering
quarter, we subsequently obtained permission for the redevelopment
of the adjacent Bemco site.
The clients had proposed a residential development on this site
immediately adjacent to the Turnbull Building but this had been
rejected on appeal on the grounds of unsuitability of the design
by others.
The client then engaged Bill Hopper Design to negotiate the difficult
mine field of the planning requirements in the area – conservation
area, listed buildings to all sides to produce new proposals, for
which we received planning consent in 2005.
This is a 20,000 square foot net of top quality office development
over five floors using materials, height references, setbacks and
articulation to produce a contemporary foil to the listed buildings
around it. Construction is expected to commence in 2007. |
